Gone are the days of princesses, bumble bees, pumpkins and any other cute Halloween costume you can think of. My children went out to Trick or Treat tonight dressed as a zombie and a pirate zombie. I spent a lot of time for the past two weeks wondering how I was going to come up with an inexpensive, gruesome costume for both of them.
Out of the blue, my daughter comes home from her dad's in an old dress-up dress, a scarf, big beads, and a wooden sword. All I had to do was buy a black wig for $5.50.
My son's was easy too. I went to the thrift store and purchased a button down shirt for $1.50. I took an old pair of jeans and a stained t-shirt and ripped them to shreds (a good way to take out some frustration!)... Here's where the scrapbooking supplies really come in handy. After they were all ripped up, I covered them in spray walnut ink, and brown, black and red ink! The pants were a little too "bloody" for school, but they sure look cool tonight!
I did purchase some face paint for $5.00 at a Halloween store.
So after all my worrying, I ended up spending $12.00. Pretty good considering the costumes at the Halloween store were $30.00 each (and not nearly as cute!).
Lesson for tonight. All my scrapbook supplies can be used for projects beyond scrapbooking. I guess I should invest in some more ink...
